Dawn DeMarco-Book was born in Buffalo, New York and moved to South Florida in 1971 with her family. She is the youngest of 4 children and is the only female child. She grew up in the Coral Springs area and was the first graduating class of Coral Springs High School. Dawn was undecided with her career, and decided to go to work right out of high school. She worked for an electronics supplier initially in the shipping and receiving department. She was then promoted to inside sales and held that position until she left. Dawn took a break for a while and worked for a close friend until she was offered a job in New York City. She joined a boutique jewelry company as their national sales director. She spent four years leading a sales team headquartered in New York while traveling around the country promoting the jewelry line. During her tenure, Dawn would be asked to pitch in to help make jewelry during high demand times. At the time, she thought she had two left thumbs and was delegated to carding the jewelry. Little did she know where this would lead her!
In 1990 she moved back to South Florida and was unsure of what she wanted to do with her life. Dawn started searching and asking God what it was He wanted her to do with her life. She didn’t get an answer right away, so in the interim she worked for her family’s security company. On her way to an appointment, God placed on her heart to start a jewelry company and design pieces for women who love sports. Dawn sat down that Sunday at a Miami Dolphins game and talked to her friend about the idea. With her friend’s help, Dawn learned the jewelry manufacturing business and they were off and running. Through life’s many distractions, the jewelry business was put on the back burner! However, in 1999, something happened that would change her life forever and she rededicated herself to getting the jewelry line off the ground. In 2002, she kept hearing how women loved her designs but were not sports fans. As a result of that feedback, she changed the direction of her company and started to design with Swarovski crystal, semi-precious stones and Venetian beads from Italy.
In 2005, Dawn met her future husband Richard. They were introduced through mutual friends who felt they would hit it off. Unbeknownst to Richard, Dawn knew he was the one God had for her as her husband. They married in March of 2007 and reside in Delray Beach, Florida with their kitty cat Faith.
In 2007, Dawn was ready to take the business to the next level. She realized they needed to spread the word about this very unique jewelry company. (Sparkle of Life donates a minimum of 10% of all sales to charity). Dawn had been doing this for years but did not market the company that way. In September 2008, they created the dba “Sparkle of Life” and the tagline “Giving is Fashionable” and have raised over $84,600 which also include in-kind donations.
